Our History
Sandy Kids Club has been part of the Sandy community since 1991. Originally founded as The Sandy Club by community leader Linda Martinez Saville, the organization began with a simple belief: children in the community needed a safe place where they could spend time, build friendships, learn, and grow.
Linda’s experiences and commitment to her community shaped the organization from the beginning. What started in a small double-wide trailer grew into a dedicated youth center that has served generations of children and families in Sandy.
Over the years, the Club has continued to grow and change along with the needs of the families it serves. Programs have expanded beyond recreation to include academic support and tutoring, food assistance, social-emotional learning, counseling and emotional wellness services, enrichment opportunities, and additional support for children and their families.
A New Name, the Same Commitment
In 2026, The Sandy Club officially became Sandy Kids Club, along with a new tagline:
“A Safe Place for Kids.”
The new name reflects who we are today while honoring more than three decades of history in the Sandy community.
While our name has changed, the purpose behind the Club has not. Sandy Kids Club remains committed to providing children with a safe, supportive place where they can learn, play, build relationships, explore new interests, and receive support from caring adults.
Continuing the Legacy
Today, children who walk through our doors are part of a story that began more than 35 years ago. Some things have changed considerably since the days of the original double-wide trailer, but the heart of the organization remains rooted in the vision and compassion that inspired its founding.
Sandy Kids Club continues to grow through the support of families, staff, volunteers, donors, businesses, community partners, and others who believe in the importance of providing a safe place for kids.
As we begin this next chapter as Sandy Kids Club, we are proud of where we started, grateful for everyone who helped us get here, and committed to continuing this work for the children and families of our community.
